Beat the Reaper by Josh Bazell – Dedication

In Books, Mystery, Novels on June 27, 2010 at 12:18 pm

Josh Bazell (a Columbia University graduate) dedicated his best-seller Beat the Reaper ~

In Memoriam

Stanley Tanz, MD

This is a fascinating dedication. Bazell’s book sweeps us into a macabre hospital to meet a doctor and a patient — one of whom may be a hitman. Bazell dedicated Beat the Reaper to Dr. Stanley Tanz who wrote extensively on “Pseudo-pseudohypoparathyroidism.” This illness is strikingly similar to pseudohypoparathyroidism. Here’s an article from one of Tanz’s patients.

Confessions of a Prairie Bitch by Alison Arngrim – Dedication

In Adventure, Biography, Books on June 26, 2010 at 12:09 pm

Meet the Bette Middler School of Overcompensation. That’s how shy teen Alison Arngrim overcame her shyness on the set of Little House on the Prairie – where she played Nellie Olson on screen and wanted her castmates to know that she had a big heart under all that bossy dialogue.

We loved this line: “My colleagues spoke about how nice it was that I had ‘come out of my shell.’ I learned then that people see what they want to see and believe what they want to believe. It takes very little to help them along.” HaHa 🙂

Alison Arngrim‘s dedication in Confessions of a Prairie Bitch ~

For Jess:

The Pig Woman speaks at last.

For Lucy:

I think I understand you a little bit more every day.

“Jess” may be Alison’s former Personal Manager.

Portrait of an Addict as a Young Man by Bill Clegg – Dedication

In Biography, Books, Horror, Psychology on June 25, 2010 at 8:15 am

Vogue Magazine just ran an article on Bill Clegg’s first novel. The story: crack and heartache.

Bill can mock a dorky corporateer in three quick words and tell a whole vibrant story in just sixteen, but he’ll keep you captivated through all 200+ pages of this novel. See Bill succeed (New York literary agent). See Bill slip and slide into drugs. Hang on to see the end.

We loved the way he shared his partner Noah’s heartache and sorrow and rage. It’ll tear you heart out. 😦

Bill Clegg dedicated Portrait of an Addict as a Young Man ~

For everyone still out there

Delivering Happiness by Zappos’ Tony Hsieh – Dedication

In Books, Business on June 24, 2010 at 6:42 pm

Here’s an adorable dedication from Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos.com, Inc (and a big-time brand builder long before Zappos started zipping shoes around the world). Tony wrote “Delivering Happiness” about all the joy (and hard times) that Zappos survived… such as moving from the lush bay area to Las Vegas, and merging with giant Amazon. He dedicated it to Ava.

Tony Hsieh’s dedication in Delivering Happiness ~

This book is dedicated to Ava Zech and all of the other aspiring

entrepreneurs and business leaders of tomorrow.

Happy eleventh birthday, Ava!
