for Elizabeth and David

– The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

2Y&Y: Most dedications capitalize every word or none of the words. Notice how Sylvia Plath capitalized the people’s names only. Elizabeth and David Compton were family friends. When Sylvia’s husband Ted Hughes began a liaison with Assia Wevill, Plath drove to the Compton’s, sought Elizabeth’s advice and dedicated The Bell Jar to her as a token of thanks.
